Mammoth Woolworth Building Opens
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - April 24 1913 - The well known , sixty-one year old from Rodman, New York received a slightly late present this year for his anniversary celebration. Frank Winfield Woolworth’s present, just days after his sixty first birthday, is the Grand Opening of his gigantic building on Broadway. Well, this is more of a reward for his ambitious journey into fortune. This marvel costed him just around thirteen and a half million in funds, but with this he has made his mark in New York City. The building, the tallest in the city, stands two-hundred and forty-one meters, has room for fifty-seven stories. This building also features fabulous new a Steam Turbines, Gothic face, over thirty elevating platforms and can stand firm to strong two-hundred mile per hour winds gusts. Word has it that the interior decoration is grand and that a public observation deck may also be part of this modern masterpiece of architecture. No one knows how all of this vacant space will be distributed, but one will assume Woolworth will have the head office with a overlook of the entire city. Mister Woolworth has come a long way since being employed at Augubury and More as a sales workman forty years ago. He began the famous Five and Dime retail chain and is expected to succeed further over the coming years.

Austin, Texas - April 22nd 1970 - After three days of speeches, activities and related programs a stand for recognition of our own Mother Earth may have been born. Students here at the University of Texas’ -Austin campus- organized their own event and quite possibly have succeeded in reaching out to the masses here in Texas. The topics at hand mostly dealt with unregulated air and water pollution. Initial reports state that well over 1500 colleges and almost 10000 schools and other communities across America, took part in the event that has been in in the making for the past few years. In September of last year, Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson called to have a day dedicated to awareness of the environment. Activists and even Sen. Nelson may not have imagined such an uprising. Sen. Nelson may have wisely chosen April 22nd for this event as students would be in between spring break and final exams. Early estimates show that millions, mostly students, may have participated in this event and may have taken the emotion and protest to unimaginable new heights. Some other related events happening today include protests in Philadelphia, where environmental activist Ira Einhorn lead some events and a rally. In the city of New York, major streets were ordered to be cleared to make room for expression and protest. There were no reports of major disruption or violence here in Austin or elsewhere. Only time will tell if the events of today and this past week will stay or if this will be only one single attempt to recognize and tune our harmony with the environment.
